Reading Response

In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie it shows daily struggles for the main character Junior. Currently he is annoyed with the tribe's lack of education with textbooks at least 30 years old. He is planning to leave the reservation and go to the suburban white school across town. The author also shows that Junior's best friend Rowdy has abandoned him. This means that scrawny Junior now has no protection and is going to most  likely be beaten up a lot.

Alexie does a great job in describing life on an Indian Reservation with great detail. He also adds lots of comedy and cartoons to make the book interesting. The almost informal style of writing makes the book very easy to read. I was very hesitant to begin reading this book and did not think it would be good. So far it has been very good and I can't wait to see what happens next.
